RWAS Student of the Year 2019 – Fflur Roberts

Congratulations to Newtown College’s Fflur Roberts, who was announced the RWAS Student of the year 2019 at a Ceremony held at the Royal Welsh Show on 23rd July.

The second year agriculture student was nominated by the agriculture department.

Fflur attended the ceremony held at the president’s pavilion, along with her family and after the presentation they jointly expressed their appreciation for the college and the support shown by the agriculture department. Fflur said “I am grateful that the college has nominated me for this award and feel pleased to have won. The lecturers at the college have inspired me to take every opportunity available and encouraged me to take part in quite a few national competitions now.”

Fflur was also runner-up earlier this year for the Lantra Young Learner of the Year (Under 26).

Fflur is a fluent Welsh speaker and she aims to promote and preserve Welsh traditions and culture within the agriculture industry.  She aims to continue local customs and help sustain and grow her family sheep and beef farm in Llangadfan.

Martin Watkin, the College’s Land Based Estates Manager said: “Fflur is an excellent student.  She has proven herself to be an enthusiastic and hardworking student who participates fully in all farm activities at the college and produces assignments of a high standard”.
