Success Across the College

Students across NPTC Group of Colleges are celebrating results in completing Vocational courses as well as A-Levels and apprenticeship studies.

At Newtown College, the Health, Social Care and Childcare department has had exceptional success with the majority of students going on to University.

Seven of the students studying Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care achieved the top grade of triple star distinction. Amy Price, Lucy Collard, Carla Jones, Niamh Natasha Pugh, Lauren Tabberer, Trudi Hancock and Ruth Jenkins all achieved the top grade.

Also notably is Health and Social Care student Ffion Jones who has achieved a Bronze Award for BTEC Child, Health and Social Care Student of the Year 2019 to recognise her outstanding dedication and commitment to the subject. Ffion combined studying for the BTEC along with, two part-time jobs, being a Dementia Friends Champion, raising £320 for the Alzheimer’s Society, being a Police Cadet with Dyfed Powys Police, a Cadet Leader at Newtown’s St. Johns Centre, has carried out work placements at Bethshan Nursing home in Newtown and at Newtown Hospital, completed bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh awards and somehow still found time to achieve fantastic grades to help her fulfil her dream of becoming a Police Officer. Ffion is now training to become a Special Constable with Dyfed Powys Police.

Students on the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Childcare have all either found employment or have secured a university place of their choice. Remarkably Libby Cawley has successfully received a place as one of only 100 students with the prestigious Norland Nannies, a childcare choice for the rich and famous, including royalty such as Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Sarah Eskins Health and Social Care Lecturer said ‘We have a had a fabulous bunch of students in this past cohort in all sorts of ways: hardworking, determined, enthusiastic, motivated, conscientious and great fun to teach.  It’s sad to see them go but they are now progressing to university or into jobs. We wish them all the luck in the world for their futures”.
