College’s Employability Team helps student land dream job

NPTC Group of Colleges prides its self on giving students the best start in life and developing not just academic skills, but those to become career-ready too!

Thanks to the support offered from Career Ready, NPTC Group of Colleges employability initiative, past student Luke Jenkins has secured a full-time position as a Management Information Systems (MIS) Support Officer at the College.

Luke started his journey with Neath College as an A Level student, taking double business, IT, as well as the Welsh Baccalaureate, before heading off to study business at the University of Wales, Trinity Saint David.  But, a large university wasn’t for Luke, and he returned to Neath College to complete his HND in Business, and finally the top-up Business Degree.

Throughout his time at college, Luke was a student intern with Centerprise (our Business Incubation Centre), attending events and helping with graphic design projects, anything to improve his CV, but it wasn’t until the Senior Officer for Enterprise and Employability, Cara Mead delivered a session on CV’s that Luke approached the team to help with applying for jobs.  Luke was able to access a range of support from the team to help with the whole application process, including receiving a mock interview, which he’s convinced helped land him the role as MIS Support Officer.

‘’I’m so pleased to have secured a full-time position only a month after graduating! I don’t think I could have done it without the support I received from Centerprise.  It’s not only given me many new skills, but greatly improved my confidence.  It’s great having a college like this on your doorstep who really do care about their students future, I can’t recommend the team enough and would encourage all students to use the college’s Career Ready initiative’’

Cara Mead, Senior Officer: Enterprise & Employability was delighted with Luke’s success, she said

‘’We are all really proud of Luke and what he’s achieved with us. Centerprise is proud to offer the ‘Career Ready’ initiative to help  every student get ready for the world of work. The support we offer includes work experience placements, CV writing, help with application forms, and mock interviews.’’
