Access to HE Diploma – Applied Computing Level 3 (Full-Time)
Access to Higher Education Diploma – Applied Computing aims to prepare learners for study at Higher Education in a computing or IT related programme. This is located in the Computing and Information Technology (CIT) department.
The course is designed to provide specialist, work-related units for the computing and IT sector. It aims is to give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills such as coding, software development and website design, that they need to prepare for related higher education courses or employment.
The Applied Computing Diploma provides career development opportunities and a clear progression route to higher education, degree and professional development programmes within the Computing and IT areas.
Applications can be made from learners who have been out of compulsory education for 3 years or more and/or do not hold any formal qualifications; however, a skills assessment and an interview will need to be undertaken to determine suitability for the course.
Learners with GCSE Maths and English Language at grade C or above do not need to undertake the skills assessment but will need to attend an interview.
Applicants should have a positive disposition and deal well with challenges and be motivated, reliable, mature and have evidence of life experience and should demonstrate a keen interest in computing.
The qualification gives learners the opportunity to progress to foundation degrees in IT or Computing areas, BSc in Computing, BSc in IT Management, degree apprenticeships in a related area and employment in the computing sector, including graphic design, web development, coding, technical support and software development.

Teaching and learning will take place by a process of lectures, tutorials, seminars, discussions, demonstrations, blended learning and group work. Learners will be assessed by written reports, practical portfolios and exam-based assessments
