The AS Level / A Level Drama & Theatre Studies is a Full-time Further Education course designed for students who are interested in the performing arts and entertainment industry and have acting ambitions. This is located in the Sixth Form Academy (SFA).
It is a highly practical course provides learners with the opportunity to work as either performers or set designers combining the activities of exploring plays, creating theatre, the performing of plays, the analysis of theatre and the critical evaluation of all these elements.
The course allows you to study a minimum of two complete performance texts plus three key extracts covering a range of periods and contexts. You will also participate in a minimum of two performances plus consider the working methods of a theatre practitioner. Live theatre reviews form part of the non-examined assessment and will be used to assess practical work.
We are delighted to offer students the opportunity to obtain their Duke of Edinburgh Awards with Grass Roots Theatre Company. Alongside developing skills and physical fitness, the award will offer students relevant work experience and the opportunity to take part in an adventurous expedition.

A minimum of six GCSEs at Grade C or above including English/Welsh, GCSE Grade C or above in Drama is desirable, but not essential in all cases.
Acting, Theatre Studies and Performing Arts in Higher Education. It can be used as part of your course to broaden your studies and may lead to a career in the performing arts industries.
