AS Level / A Level French (Full-Time)

Course Overview

The AS Level / A Level French is a Full-time Further Education course located in the Sixth Form Academy (SFA). This is designed to develop your French language skills. You will develop confident, effective communication skills in French and a thorough understanding of the culture of countries and communities where French is spoken.

The course will nurture an interest in, and enthusiasm for, language learning and encourages students to consider their study of the language in a broader context. The themes covered are, being a young person in a French speaking society and understanding the French-speaking world, diversity and difference and France from 1940 – 1950.

  • Entry Requirements

    A minimum of six GCSEs at Grade C or above including French at Grade B and English Language at Grade B.

  • Course Modules

    Theme 1: Family structures, traditional and modern values, friendships; Youth Trends. Issues and personal identity; Educational and employment opportunities.

    Theme 2: Regional culture and heritage in France and French-speaking countries; Film: Roselyne Bosh: La Rafle.

    Theme 3: Migration and integration; Cultural identity; Discrimination and diversity.

    Theme 4: Occupation of France in World War II; Post-war France 1945 -1950; Novel: FaÏza Guène: Kiffe kiffe demain.

  • Assessment

    Unit 1: Speaking exam.

    Unit 2: Listening, reading a translation, and critical response.

    Unit 3: Speaking.

    Unit 4: Listening, reading and translation.

    Unit 5: Critical and analytical response in writing.

    In class, there are assessment tests on grammar, vocabulary, and topics.
