AS/A Level Graphic Design is a full-time Further Education course which can also be studied as a standalone part-time course. Designed for students wanting to work in the Creative Arts industry, with aspirations of becoming a Graphic Designer. This is located in the Creative, Visual and Performing Arts (CVP) Department.
This course will give you the opportunity to develop professional, technical and artistic skills in Graphic Design. You will be producing exciting creative work in both digital and traditional media, using specialist facilities; Apple Mac computer suite using Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and other software, as well as drawing, painting, print media and photography. These are explored within the context of thematic projects and live briefs. You will also learn specialist vocabulary and gain a knowledge and understanding of historical and contemporary graphic designers and relevant artists and photographers.

If you are under 21 you must have one of the following: 4 GCSE passes at grade A*- C, (or equivalent). We welcome applications from mature students too.

From this AS/A2 programme students can progress to the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design L3/4 course at NPTC Group or directly to university or employment.
There are many exciting areas of Graphic Design to aim for as a career; Advertising, Marketing, Packaging, Book Cover Design, Layout and Design for Books and Magazines, Posters, Publicity, Corporate ID, Webpage Design, Typography and more.
Unit 1: Personal Creative Enquiry.
Unit 2: Personal Investigation.
Unit 3: Externally Set Assignment.
The course is also characterised by broad ranging, creative and experimental approaches to Graphic Design, exploring images, layout and typography to communicate to specific audiences.
This will enable learners from Level 2 Art, Design or Media courses, such as GCSE or L2 Diploma, and mature learners to make informed choices about career and progression pathways specific to the area of Graphic Design.
You will learn through a variety of theory and practical workshops.
Assessment will be done using a range of assessment strategies including presentations, exhibitions, reports, essays and practical portfolio; digital or traditional.
All three units are graded at A* to E and this is confirmed by an External Moderator who will visit the College to view an exhibition of work and a portfolio.
Costs might include trips to exhibitions and museums and basic Art & Design equipment e.g. paint brushes, scissors, pencils etc. All other materials are supplied by the College.
