The AS Level / A Level Physical Education course is a Full-time Further Education course within the Sixth Form Academy (SFA) and is designed for students interested in human anatomy, physiology and sport performance.
The specification in physical education will enable you to make connections between theory and practice so that you are able to apply your understanding of the factors that underpin physical activity and sport and use this knowledge to improve performance. Students will understand how physiological and psychological states affect performance and understand the key socio-cultural factors that influence people’s involvement in physical activity and sport.
The role of technology in sport is also explored and used to refine their own ability to perform effectively in sport by developing skills and techniques and selecting and using tactics, strategies and/or compositional ideas. Students will develop their ability to analyse and evaluate to improve performance.
A minimum of six GCSE at Grade C or above, including English Language. A Grade C in Maths is desirable. A grade BB in double science or grade C in triple science is required. A Grade B in GCSE P.E and strong practical skills in one sport and coaching is required.

AS NEA Practical: Improving Personal Performance
Performance in one sport, coaching/officiating in sport, personal performance coursework.
A2 Theory: Evaluating Physical Activity
Unit 1: Exercise physiology, performance analysis and training. Unit 2: Sports Psychology. Unit 3: Skill Acquisition. Unit 4: Sport and Society
A2 NEA Practical: Refining Personal Performance
Performance in one sport either as a performer, coach or official, Investigative research coursework.
AS: Unit 1 Written Examination. Unit 2 coursework and practical performance and practical coaching/officiating.
A2: Unit 3 Written Examination. Unit 4 coursework and practical performance either as a performer, coach or official.
Part Time study incurs a fee of £150 per subject, payable at enrolment. NPTC Group of Colleges' t-shirt to be purchased at around £15. Full Sports Kit will be an additional cost.
