The Creative Solutions – Accelerated Hairdressing is a Full-time Further Education course designed for students aged 16-18 who are interested in a career as a hairdresser or barber.
This is located in the Hairdressing and Applied Therapies (HAT) department.
This accelerated learning programme involves two qualifications in:
Level 1 Award in styling Women’s Hair. Through this unit you will develop the skill of blow drying, finger drying and finishing techniques on a variety of hair types and lengths.
VRQ Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing which covers: health and safety; client consultation; shampoo and conditioning hair; the research unit – working in the hair industry; cut women’s hair; colour and lighten hair and the art of dressing hair. These units are all mandatory.
Students are encouraged to achieve success in the Level 1 Award within 8 weeks of the start date in order to progress and fast track onto the VRQ Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing.

This qualification may lead directly into employment in a salon as a junior stylist or to work as an independent hairdresser.
This qualification will allow learners to continue their studies to Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing and/or advanced skills courses.
Learners will also develop their understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include: reception duties; create an image based on a theme; provide scalp massage services; promoting products and services to clients; and colouring hair – the full list of optional units is presented in the learner Record of Assessment book (RoA) (specification).
This qualification’s structure provides learners with the flexibility to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills depending upon their designated career pathway as a hairdresser/stylist.
Assessment methods include observation of practical work, written assignments, oral questioning and written end of unit tests. Learners will be required to bring clients to commercial classes for assessments.
Additionally, they will have homework to complete which includes compiling a portfolio of evidence, completing workbooks and practising skills.
Learners will be required to purchase a uniform and kit.
