The Level 2 in Carpentry & Joinery is a Full-time Further Education course designed for students who are interested in developing the practical skills and knowledge gained at Level 1 and for those who wish to work as a carpenter or joiner within the construction industry. This is located in the Construction and the Built Environment (CBE) department.
Learners will attend College three days a week and will study a Level 2 Diploma (if unemployed) and a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery (two days a week if employed). The learning will build on the Level 1 Diploma with units that include: First fix (door and window frames, stud partitions and stairs). Second fix (doors, skirting, architrave, ironmongery, service encasement, kitchens and cladding), Carcassing (floors and roofs). All learners are encouraged to participate in Skills Competitions as a means of enhancing their practical ability and developing higher level skills. Many of the School’s learners represent the College in Skills Competitions at a regional, Welsh and UK level and the School enjoys much success as a result of Learners achievements. We are continuously recognised for excellence in a number of areas including; brickwork, carpentry and joinery, plastering and technical and professional studies. We have well established links with a number of employers and many of our Learners progress into Apprenticeships or Higher Education on completion of their programme of study.
