Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instruction and Personal Training (Full-Time)
Course Overview
This qualification provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed to work as a Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer in a variety of settings. The qualification is mapped to the CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer professional standards. This qualification is designed for learners who want to work as a Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer in a range of settings.
The objectives of this qualification are to:
• demonstrate the knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed to work as a Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer
• develop skills and knowledge in a range of areas relevant to the role, such as:
• the principles of working in the gym environment, including customer service and how to maintain
• health, safety and welfare
• anatomy and physiology
• how to conduct consultations and promote the health benefits of a physical activity
• how to communicate effectively and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme on how to plan and prepare a gym-based exercise programme
• marketing and business planning
• personal training programming and delivering personal training sessions
4 GCSEs at grade C or above with at least an E grade in English Language and in Maths. Ideally, you will have undertaken GCSE PE or a level 2 equivalent such as BTEC Level 2 sport. You must have a clear enthusiasm for the gym and training environments. The College will require a basic DBS check for all applicants aged 25 and over enrolling in full-time FE courses for safeguarding purposes.
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress into employment or self-employment as a Gym Instructor or Personal Trainer. Learners may also wish to explore further qualifications such as the Level 2 Awards for Instructing Core Group Exercise (Group Cycling, Kettlebell Training, Circuit Training, Suspension Training), the Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral or the Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy.

There are no formal exams and the assessment methods are varied and include presentations, report submissions and practical assessments. It is internally assessed with an externally quality assured portfolio of evidence.
