The VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing is a full-time one-year further education course. It covers styling, setting and blow-drying skills. You will also learn how to colour, shampoo and condition hair. Additionally, you’ll study basic salon health and safety, retail, reception skills and customer care. This is located in the Hairdressing and Applied Therapies (HAT) department.
Interview prior to enrolment. Learners must be aged 19 or over and have achieved at least 2 GCSEs at grades D or above.
This qualification will allow learners to continue their studies to Level 2 Hairdressing and/or advanced skills courses.
Assessment methods include: observation of practical work, written assignments, oral questioning, written end of unit tests. You will need to bring clients in for assessments. Additionally, you will have homework to complete which includes compiling a portfolio of evidence, completing workbooks and practising skills.
