Green Light for New Police Course

NPTC Group is about to take on its first batch of recruits for a new professional policing certificate for people wanting to join the police service.
The Certificate in Knowledge of Policing (CKP) is a City and Guilds Level 3 and is a brand new qualification that will give people a head start if they are looking to join a police force in England or Wales. Some forces have already made the qualification a requirement for all candidates before their applications are even considered.

The course which costs £650 is approved by the College of Policing, and delivered by experienced ex-police personnel over a 12-week period. The pre-join element required by the College of Policing is a self-study programme that is managed by the course tutors that culminates after 20 weeks.
Students will learn how to support victims and witnesses, how to arrest detain and report, interview and search techniques along with how to manage conflict amongst other things. As well as the theory behind policing the course comprises of practical elements including taught sessions, discussions, role play, staged scenarios and guest speakers.
Barry Roberts, NPTC Group’s head of Sport and Public Services said: “Achievement of the CKP does not guarantee a place in the police service but will certainly help prepare anyone seeking employment in Police Services in England and Wales. The qualification is also relevant to other related roles within the police service and may be considered to access a degree programme in Police Studies. We have agreed a cost that is realistic and when compared with other providers really does offer value for money.”
