Budding Mechanics show off their skills for World Skills Competition

SOME of South Walesí budding mechanics showed off their skills last week at NPTC Groupís Pontadawe Campus.

The College was the proud host of the South Wales regional heat of the World Skills Competition which saw students travel from Gower College Swansea, Gwent College and Cardiff and the Vale to compete.

The event also saw students from the Collegeís Newtown campus attend the North Wales competition in Anglesey on the same day.

Gareth Durnell an NPTC Group apprentice working towards a Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair and the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair took first place along with Adam Davies from Coleg Gwent, closely followed by NPTC Groupís Daniel Blackmore also on the fulltime Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.

Victoria Williams, a Level 1 Motor Vehicle student from NPTC Group and the only girl to compete in the heat held her own against her male rivals proving that the profession is open to all.

We wish Gareth and Daniel every success when they travel to Coleg Cambria next month for the Welsh final.
