Horticulture Students gain valuable experience in local Nursery

SPRING is never a quiet time for a horticulturist and certainly wonít be for a number of green- fingered students from NPTC Groupís Neath Campus who have been hard at work at local community tree nursery, Coeden Fach.

Working alongside the Nursery manager and his experienced staff, the Level 1 Horticulture students will gain experience in a range of sustainable techniques to minimise their impact on the environment and grow plants from seed, most of which has been collected locally. It will also give students the opportunity to help the nursery further its work in propagating plants.

Neil Barry, NPTC Groupís Horticulture lecturer, said:

ĎíItís a fantastic opportunity for the student to gain some real exposure to a proper plant nursery.íí

Coeden Fach is a community tree nursery project based in Bishopston, Swansea whose aim is to promote the importance of sustainable land management and hold a vision of a future that is not reliant on fossil fuels.

The project will run over the next five weeks and on completion of the programme, the students will receive a certificate from Coeden Fach.
