College wins big at bakery competition

NPTC Group’s bakery students have risen to the occasion at the annual conference for the Alliance for Bakery Students and Trainees (ABST) held at Alton Towers recently.

They walked away with a haul of accolades including wins in the International competition, best confectionery, Renshaw celebration cake and even best in class for scones and Battenberg. The students received a number of prizes including X Boxes and money.

Each year, bakery students from all over the UK meet at Alton Towers Resort to compete and build networks across the bakery industry in a fun environment.

Elizabeth Parkinson, a Level 3 in Professional Bakery student won selection onto a highly coveted artisan bread course, following the success of winning 1st place in the Live Piping category, where she was the first person in four years to win the live piping trophy due to the exceptional standard of her work.
Delyth Barnes, a Level 2 Bakery Skills student was also awarded a work experience placement at the famous Richemont School in Switzerland in October.

Gareth Morgan, NPTC Group’s Bakery tutor commented:

‘’A great weekend was had by all and the students who attended were a credit to the College. It was a very successful conference for us with some students now able to send CVs to some very well- known companies in the baking industry.’’
