News : Inspirational Student wins Powys Inspire Award

Football Focus

In hot summer temperatures, players from the NPTC Group’s Football Academy Neath travelled to Dragon Park, home of the Football Association of Wales Trust (FAW) and its national team headquarters, Newport, to take part in the UEFA ‘B’ Licence Intensive coaching course.
The course involved players from as far and wide as Ghana and Canada, all former or current professional footballers, with our students having the opportunity to train alongside some of the big names in UK football such as former England international Lee Bowyer and Wales striker Robert Earnshaw.
Matthew Jones, Senior Lecturer in Sports Science and Head of the Football Academy, said: “As part of our positive working relationship with the FAW Trust and our status as a Football Focus College, it’s great to take advantage of this opportunity.
The students are all enthusiastic footballers and have already taken their first step on the coaching ladder by completing their Football Leaders Award as part of their College course.
This day gave them a snapshot of what they have to do to progress as potential coaches. It was also extremely worthwhile being coached by high level candidates who have a wealth of knowledge in the professional game, some at international level.”
