Viva España

Two NPTC Group students will be putting their Spanish skills to good use this summer after receiving unconditional offers by two leading universities.

The two 18 year-olds have been studying Spanish A Level along with other subjects at the College for the past two years and are now busy sitting their final exams before flying off to Spain.

Amy Harvey is off to Barcelona to study Performing Arts and Lauren Williams has been accepted at Aberystwyth University to study Romance Languages (French and Italian). She picked up top marks in a Spanish entrance exam which also won her a £1,000 bursary, but first she is off to Malaga to learn even more about the language by attending an intensive course.

Lauren said: “I hadn’t studied Spanish or any other language before NPTC Group. The first year was intense but the quality of the teaching and support got me through. When we had to start applying for University, I saw that Aberystwyth offered a degree in Romance Languages and I would be able to study both Italian and French from scratch.

“I heard that Aberystwyth offered merit awards so I decided to apply to sit the exams. I was thrilled to find out I had 82 per cent in the Spanish exam and an unconditional offer with £1000 bursary”, she added.

Amy is also delighted and said: “I was first interested in Spanish in Dwr-Y-Felin Comprehensive School which then led me to continue with it at NPTC Group. I have really enjoyed Spanish in College, although it has been a lot of work, it had also been very rewarding. I am also studying Musical Theatre Performing Arts BTEC and with the hope of continuing with both subjects at University, I applied to a vocational School for the Arts in Barcelona. After an intense audition of singing, acting and dancing I was offered a place!

“I was over the moon when I found out and I am so happy that I will be able to continue with Musical Theatre as well as living in Spain, in order to improve my Spanish.”
