School of Health, Social and Childcare

Currently, Health Social and Childcare courses are offered in five locations: the campuses at Neath, Afan, Brecon, Newtown and Pontardawe as well as outreach classes in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot schools

The School offers full time courses on both main campuses with a wider range available at Neath. Part-time courses may be accessed at all locations delivered by day and evening. The full-time courses in Health and Social Care offer progression from Level 1 to Level 5 whilst in Early Years courses, they are offered at Level 1 to Level 5. Although the majority of courses have a September start, there is an opportunity for a January and April intake for those wishing to study NVQ Childrens Care Learning and Development level 2 to level 5.

Access to Health and Social Care courses are offered on both the main campuses and attracts healthy numbers. Study maybe on a full-time or part-time basis, by day or evening. The progression route for the successful Access students is varied many entering the field of nursing or midwifery whilst some choosing to continue with their studies at a higher level.

Progression is facilitated in our excellent HE (Higher Education) Centre at the Afan Campus offering courses of Level 4 to Level 5. There are several different courses available all enabling students to continue with their studies at a higher level and benefiting from the easy access. The College works closely with Swansea Metropolitan University and also the University of Glamorgan.

Whilst students study their main programme area, there are opportunities to achieve additional qualifications which serve to support applications to future employment or study, these include : Emergency First Aid, Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene, Healthy Lifestyles and Forest School. GCSEs which complement the subject area are available including the AS in Health and Social Care.

The School prides itself in attempting to meet the needs of the individuals in the community and continually seeks to increase the range of courses on offer. Including the Teaching Assistants Certificate (CACHE), Introduction to Counselling Skills Level 2/3 and Life Coaching Level 3.

Staff within the School make every effort to promote a culture of care and aim to support and guide their students so that they may fulfil their goals in life.
