Lee Stafford Academy arrives at Newtown College

Celebrity hairdresser Lee Stafford officially launched the Lee Stafford Academy of Hairdressing, Barbering and Applied Therapies at Newtown College in front of a full house recently.

The Academy, which is part of a partnership with the College involving Afan College, Brecon Beacons College and Newtown College is the only one of its kind in Wales, offering budding hairdressers and salons unique training and exceptional masterclasses that they can’t get anywhere else.

The aim of the Academy is to ensure that students from NPTC Group of Colleges are the most employable in the country, as stylists, colourists or in any hairdressing field of their choice.

Local stylists were treated to an evening with Lee Stafford who provided a live demonstration of his latest cutting techniques. He was joined on stage by the College’s specialist hairdressing staff who showcased some of Lee’s signature, Michelin standard recipes: Pony Up, Twisted Tong and Big and Bouncy, with all staff working towards achieving their ‘Big 10’s’ in each recipe.

His interactive masterclass was met with great enthusiasm from the audience of local salon owners. Guests were welcomed with drinks and canapés at a reception prepared by students from the College’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality department. They were joined by the eye-catching ‘WoW Dolls’, from the College’s performing arts department. Before taking to the stage, Lee said: “It feels really good to be launching the first-ever Lee Stafford Academy here in Wales. I’m so excited to be in partnership with such an enthusiastic and driven College.”

Julianna Thomas, Head of School for Hair and Applied Therapies said: “We are the first and only College in Wales that has a partnership with Lee Stafford Education, this means that we are the only College in Wales to be a Lee Stafford Academy.

“All hairdressing staff have, during 2019 undertaken an exceptional intensive three-week training programme to produce Michelin standard Lee Stafford hairdressing techniques with a further week of training planned for this academic year. Our students are therefore also trained to this exceptionally high standard as all Lee Stafford recipes are adhered to by all staff in their delivery of the hairdressing qualifications – lucky students.”

Lee Stafford will be back in the Spring for further events but if you are a salon looking to work with the College or someone looking to get into hairdressing, please contact us.
