NPTC Group of Colleges was honoured to be one of the sponsors of the 2025 Powys Business Awards, held recently at The Hafren theatre, Newtown. The prestigious event celebrates the innovation, resilience and success of businesses across Powys, and this year’s ceremony was a vibrant showcase of enterprise and community spirit.
The event is organised by Mid Wales Manufacturing Group (MWMG) with support from sponsors. The overall accolade of Powys Business of the Year Award 2025 sponsored by Powys County Council was won by Harrisons Solicitors.
As part of its sponsorship, NPTC Group of Colleges presented the People Development Award, which was also won by Harrisons Solicitors. The award was presented by Catherine Lewis, Principal, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of NPTC Group, who praised the evening as “a fantastic celebration of the talent and ambition thriving here in Powys”.
In addition to sponsoring the event, the catering department at Newtown College played a central role in its success. Under the expert guidance of Head Chef Shaun Bailey, Catering lecturers Jordan Dunt, Erika Jones and hospitality lecturer Linda Williams, catering students prepared, cooked and served a delicious three-course meal for over 235 guests. The team, led by Sue Lloyd-Jones, Head of School for Catering, Agriculture and Horticulture, delivered exceptional service throughout the evening.
“We are incredibly proud of our students and staff who showcased their professionalism, teamwork, and culinary talent on such a large stage,” said Catherine Lewis. “Their contribution to the evening was outstanding, and it was wonderful to see our learners gaining real-world experience while supporting such an important event. The Powys Business Awards not only celebrates business success but also highlight the value of education and skills development in our region.”
The evening featured guest speaker Lowri Morgan, Welsh television presenter, adventurer and ultra marathon runner and entertainment from Manchester based bhangra team with their dhol drummers and dancers adding a vibrant cultural flair to celebrations.
