A talented Newtown College student is preparing to represent Wales on the world stage after qualifying for the prestigious Dance World Cup Finals in Dublin.

Jessie Roberts, a Level 3 Performing Arts student at Newtown College, has achieved outstanding success by qualifying first in Wales for Contemporary Dance and fourth in Wales for Jazz Solo, earning her a place at the Dance World Cup Finals.

Each year, more than 20,000 dancers from over 70 countries compete in national qualification events for the highly sought‑after opportunity to advance to the Dance World Cup Finals. Often described as “the Olympics of Dance”, the competition is the largest all‑genre dance event in the world and showcases the very highest levels of talent.

Alongside her demanding Level 3 studies, Jessie is also heavily involved in performance within the local dance community. She currently has a leading role in the NYP Academy production of Shrek the Musical JR, which will be staged at Hafren Theatre on Friday, 7 February, with both matinee and evening performances. Tickets are available from The Hafren Theatre Box Office.

Elizabeth Hedbden, Lecturer in Performing Arts at Newtown College, said:
“We’re incredibly proud of the hard work Jessie puts in both at college and outside of her studies to achieve such a high standard. Freya Rowlands, her coach at NYP Academy, and I are absolutely delighted with her success and will be supporting her every step of the way as she competes on the world stage. Jessie is truly inspirational.”

Newtown College warmly congratulates Jessie on her exceptional achievement and wishes her every success as she represents Wales at the Dance World Cup Finals.
