Level 2 Foundation in Plastering & Bricklaying (Full Time)
Course Overview
The Level 2 Foundation in Plastering & Bricklaying is a full-time construction course designed for students who are interested in developing practical skills for a career in the construction and built environment sector. At NPTC Group of Colleges, students will gain hands-on experience in both plastering and bricklaying, preparing them for real working environments and future progression opportunities. Students will learn how to interpret architectural drawings and technical plans, measure and calculate dimensions accurately, and carry out practical construction tasks using a range of materials including brick, stone, cement and lime. The construction industry offers strong career prospects with opportunities for progression and competitive salaries, and this course provides the essential knowledge and skills to begin a successful career.
Students will need to have achieved or be working towards Level 2 Essential Skills in English and Maths (or equivalent). A GCSE Grade D or above in English and Maths (or equivalent qualifications) is recommended. This course is suitable for students aged 16 and over who are interested in working in the construction and built environment sector and developing skills in plastering and bricklaying.
This qualification provides a progression route onto higher-level plastering or bricklaying courses or an apprenticeship within the construction industry. Students may progress into careers such as: Plasterer, Bricklayer, Construction operative, Property maintenance technician, Building contractor apprentice.
Students will complete a range of core and trade-specific units that develop knowledge, understanding and practical skills across the construction sector. Modules include: Introduction to construction and the built environment, Health and safety in construction, Employability skills for construction, Plastering skills and techniques, Bricklaying skills and techniques, Planning, carrying out and evaluating construction tasks.
Students will be assessed through a range of methods designed to reflect industry practice. Assessment includes: An externally set and marked on-screen multiple-choice test. An externally set, internally assessed practical project covering both plastering and bricklaying. An externally set, internally assessed guided discussion. Students will learn through a mixture of practical workshops, classroom-based lessons and independent study.
Students will need to purchase personal protective equipment and stationery before starting the course. This includes safety boots, safety glasses, a face mask, calculator, scale rule, pens, pencils, paper and an A4 lever arch file. Additional costs may
