Level 2 Foundation in Plastering & Construction Operations and Civil Engineering Operations (Full-Time)
Course Overview
The level 2 foundation in plastering & construction operations and civil engineering operations is a Full-time two trades course designed for students who are interested in working in the construction industry as a plasterer or as a construction and civil engineering operator.
A plasterer/construction civil engineering operator works on diverse projects from building homes, restoring historical buildings to working on large commercial projects. As a plasterer/construction civil engineering operator you will learn and develop skills such as ability to interpret architectural drawings, technical plans, accurate measuring and calculating dimensions. This also involves the traditional skills of working with lime, cement, setting out/laying drainage, kerbstones and paving. When undertaking and completing these tasks it produces a sense of accomplishment in your work.
Students will need to have achieved or be working towards their Level 2 Essential Skills English and Maths (or equivalent). GCSE Grade D or above in Maths and English. The qualification is suitable for learners aged 16+ currently working in or intending to work in the construction and built environment sector. This is also suitable for site operatives who want to widen their knowledge, understanding and skills in the sector more generally.
The level 2 plastering & construction operations and civil engineering operations qualification provides sufficient knowledge for learners to progress onto the plastering progression qualification or an apprenticeship within the sector either as a plasterer or as a construction and civil engineering operator.
All learners will complete six mandatory ‘core’ units which holistically cover:
• an introduction to the construction and built environment sectors,
• employment and employability skills; and
• health and safety.
In addition to these ‘core’ units, learners will cover two trade units; plastering & construction operations and civil engineering operations to spend additional time learning practical & academical skills, which will include planning, performing and evaluating common tasks. The qualification equips learners with a broad, cross-cutting understanding of the sector, enabling them to make informed decisions about their own development
To achieve this qualification, learners must complete:
• one externally set, externally marked on-screen multiple-choice test
• one externally set, internally marked practical project covering two trade areas; plastering & construction operations and civil engineering operations.
• one externally set, internally marked guided discussion.
You will require a range of Personal Protective Equipment and stationery prior to starting on the course including: Safety Boots, Safety Glasses, Face Mask, Calculator, Scale rule, pens, pencils and paper, A4 lever arch file.
