Newtown College Catering Student Jazmin Williams is proving herself a skilled baker with a flair for cake decorating. Jazmin, from Berriew, came second at the RWAS all Wales YFC competition held at the Winter Fair in Builth in the ‘Decorating a chocolate Yule log’ category.

Jazmin is currently in the first year of the Level 1 Professional Cookery VRQ1.  She’s already proved she’s serious about her passion for baking after building up a reputation for producing fantastic celebration cakes.  She’s become so popular she frequently finishes her day at college to begin an evening of baking and decorating.

Jazmin says she was motivated to come on the course looking for a potential career within the catering industry. She has already passed Level 2 Food Safety, and Food tolerance training and has completed four of her assessment tasks at distinction level. Jazmin has impressed her lecturers with her cake-decorating skills. She said that she’s pleased to be working toward the qualifications which will support her interest in establishing her own cake-decorating business.

Catering Lecturer Tony Burgoyne said: ‘Jazmin is showing good potential for a career within the hospitality industry. We have identified her as a student we would like to compete in World Welsh Skills Competitions’.
