Driving Change in India

NPTC Group of Colleges Spearheads EV Training and Gender Equality Initiative

In an innovative initiative aligned with worldwide sustainability objectives, NPTC Group of Colleges is at the forefront of shaping the future of clean energy and transportation. As global communities unite at COP28 to craft net-zero strategies, our involvement is a significant contribution to this international pursuit, particularly within the transport sector – a notable source of CO2 emissions – harmonising seamlessly with our initiatives.

Embracing this challenge, NPTC Group of Colleges recognises India’s transformative policies such as FAME and PLI, which incentivise electric vehicle (EV) adoption. Our goal is the electrification of a considerable portion of vehicles by 2030, underpinned by thorough state-level EV strategies.

Reflecting this dedication, the West Bengal Government’s EV policy aims ambitiously for 1 million EVs and 100,000 charging stations, placing a special focus on skill development and workforce training. This includes a progressive initiative to enhance gender equality and foster inclusive work environments, as we embark on supporting and training a new cadre of women in the EV sector. This endeavour, will begin on the 11th of December 2023, will be spearheaded by Automotive Lecturer William Davies, marking his second visit to India this year.

NPTC Group of Colleges played a crucial role in the establishment of a mobility skills centre, the creation of a comprehensive E-Mobility guide, and the launch of a pioneering training programme for women across Kolkata. This programme, an integral part of a wider training curriculum, is a collaborative effort between the UK’s NPTC Group of Colleges and Snap-E Cabs.

This initiative transcends mere training; it’s a campaign to empower women to assume leadership roles in the EV sector, providing them with invaluable skills and future employment prospects. It epitomises our commitment to not only environmental responsibility but also to societal advancement and gender equality.

James Llewellyn, the Director of Worldwide Operations said “We are immensely proud to be at the vanguard of this transformative journey towards a more sustainable and equitable future. This collaboration not only marks a significant stride in addressing the global challenge of climate change but also embodies our commitment to fostering inclusive growth and diversity. Training a new generation of women in the electric vehicle sector is not just about imparting skills; it’s about catalysing change, empowering communities, and shaping a more resilient and inclusive world. At NPTC Group of Colleges, we believe that education and skill development are fundamental to driving progress, and we’re thrilled to contribute to this global endeavour in a meaningful way”.
