Levelling Up: Brecon Beacons and Newtown Colleges Celebrate a Winning Year of Games Design Level 2 Success

Brecon Beacons College and Newtown College are proud to celebrate the successful completion of their one-year Games Design Level 2 Diploma—an immersive course that has sparked creative ambition, inspired confident storytelling, and empowered students with the skills to pursue careers in the booming games industry.

Over the year, students explored every stage of game development, culminating in the creation of unique, playable game concepts as part of their Final Major Project. From visual design and mechanics to narrative and coding, learners demonstrated imagination, resilience, and technical growth.

Although the students had come from a variety of backgrounds—with some having completed Level 1 and 2 in IT and others new to the College—all made great progress,” said IT Lecturer Linda Kelly. The students came up with some imaginative and well thought out games,” added fellow IT Lecturer Henry Black.

The course has proven an undeniable springboard for future success, with every student progressing onto the Level 3 Games Design qualification—a testament to their dedication and to the supportive, forward-thinking environment cultivated by teaching staff.

“This course offers a real gateway into the games industry,” said Emma Johnson. “Whether students dream of becoming game designers, writers, or interactive storytellers, we help them build the creative and technical skills to make it happen.”

The Games Design pathway at Brecon Beacons and Newtown Colleges is part of a thriving curriculum that nurtures innovation and opens doors to careers in one of the UK’s fastest-growing creative sectors.
