Student Lowri Hill on a rugby pitch in Wales kit

Lowri Hill, a second-row rugby player at NPTC Group of Colleges, is making her mark in women’s rugby while pursuing her A-level studies in Criminology, Psychology and Physical Education. Lowri has competed at every level, representing Ospreys U18s Women, PDC West U18s, and is currently part of the Wales U18s Women Six Nations extended squad.

Inspired by her family and friends, Lowri has been playing rugby since the age of 10. Her dedication has been matched by her commitment to her studies. While she finds her A-level subjects challenging, she values the hard work and discipline that come with balancing academic and sporting responsibilities. She also highlights the support provided by college staff, who have helped her manage deadlines and maintain her academic progress alongside her sporting commitments.

She is also a player for the College’s netball academy when time allows and excels in this area, further demonstrating her ability as an all-round athlete.

Her Sport lecturer Rhiannon Simms added,

“Lowri is a fantastic example of how dedication and hard work both on the field and in the classroom can lead to success. She balances her academic studies with elite-level rugby with focus and determination and is a real inspiration to other students. Her involvement in both rugby and netball highlights her versatility and commitment as an athlete.”

Playing rugby has given Lowri the opportunity to meet new people and become part of a close-knit squad. The high intensity and pace of training have been both rewarding and challenging, requiring focus, resilience and commitment. Selection for the Wales U18s Six Nations extended squad was a particularly proud moment, especially after overcoming a recent injury, and reflects the hard work and perseverance she has shown over the years.

Lowri had this to say about studying at the College;

“Being at NPTC Group of Colleges has allowed me to develop both academically and athletically. I have benefited from opportunities to grow my skills on and off the field, while also enjoying the social aspects of college life and the support available from teachers and peers. Looking to the future, I hope  to attend university to gain a degree that will support my career ambitions and to continue my development in rugby at higher levels.”
