First-Year Performing Arts Student Hits the Right Note on Local Radio

Level 3 Performing Arts student at Newtown College

A first-year Level 3 Performing Arts student at Newtown College is celebrating an exciting milestone after a song she performed was featured on local radio.

Stevie Cooper, from Tywyn, has always had a deep love of music, with creativity running strongly through her family. Surrounded by music from a young age, Stevie developed a passion for singing and songwriting, and she is now beginning to make her mark on the local music scene.

Recently, Stevie recorded herself singing an Adele song, ‘All I Ask and sent it to a local radio station. The performance impressed the producers so much that it was chosen as their Record of the Week, giving Stevie her first major radio airplay.

Speaking about the achievement, Stevie said the recognition has boosted her confidence and motivated her to keep pursuing her musical ambitions. Alongside her studies at Newtown College, she has recently begun gigging at social clubs and pubs, and she hopes these opportunities will continue to grow.

Stevie’s mum plays a vital role in her musical journey, often accompanying her on the piano during performances. This support has helped her develop both confidence and stage presence. Stevie is also grateful for the encouragement of her friends, particularly Tabby Kendall, a former Newtown College student, who inspired her to enrol on the Performing Arts course.

In addition to her success in music, Stevie has also been cast in a leading role in Newtown College’s upcoming production of Rock of Ages. She will be playing Sherrie, the female lead, in the popular rock musical.

The show will be performed at The Hafren Theatre, with performances at 7.30pm on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 May 2026.

Tickets are available online at www.thehafren.co.uk.

With radio recognition, live performances, and a starring role on stage, Stevie Cooper’s future in performing arts is already looking bright.
