Course Overview
The Level 3 Certificate in Community Development course provides learners with the knowledge and competence to focus and understand the purpose, values, and processes of community development and to enable people to develop and demonstrate their skills in the basics of community development practice.
The increasing need to develop our communities has never been more prevalent that we see today in our societies. When community development is effective there is less crime, less disparity between individuals, better jobs become available, a more talented workforce and less overall issues that impact the residents of a community.
Community development takes the collaboration between individuals and groups to work together to solve problems. This course enables individuals to increase their knowledge of the processes and procedures and improve competency in key areas of community development.
The Level 3 Certificate is composed of both mandatory and optional units. The mandatory units reflect the essential areas of community development: the knowledge-based units on the purpose, values and processes of community development, collective working with groups and understanding diversity within communities. The competence-based units enable people to develop and demonstrate their skills in the basics of community development practice; these units relate to inclusive group work, assessing community needs, and reflective/ competent practice. The Certificate units are designed to enable you to investigate specific areas of work that will enhance community provision.

Learners must be 18 years or over
This is part of a planned programme of training that is delivered to a range of organisations. This is the accredited Level 3 Certificate. It leads on from the level 3 Award and can lead to a Level 3 and Level 5 Diploma in Leading and Managing Community Development. It can also lead to you leading on the Pathway to becoming a Heart of the Community Organisation.

3. Understand the factors affecting the autonomy and inclusiveness of community groups
Unit 2
1. Understand value-based community development
2. Understand the competencies required of community development workers
3. Understand the role of reflection and learning in community development practice
Unit 3
1. Understand the diversity of communities
2. Understand the impact of social inequality, diversity, and injustice on communities
3. Understand how the dynamics of power and influence impacts on communities
Unit 4
1. Understand change in communities.
2. Be able to engage with communities to determine needs.
3. Be able to use information about communities and their needs
Unit 5
1. Be able to set up inclusive groups within communities.
2. Be able to build and develop inclusive autonomous groups within communities
3. Be able to develop collaborative working practices between community groups
Unit 6
1. Be able to use action-reflection processes and techniques
2. Be able to evaluate value-based community development practice
3. Be able to use reflection and evaluation to improve own practice
Unit 7
1. Understand planning for community projects
2. Be able to engage groups and individuals in planning community projects
3. Be able to support communities to plan community projects
Unit 8
1. Be able to establish the purpose and shared vision of events.
2. Be able to plan community events with the community, stakeholders, and partners.
3. Understand the legal responsibilities of event management
4. Be able to publicise an event.
Assessment will be based on the learning objectives planned for each unit.
Assessment methods will be many and varied and meet the requirements of the
We will deliver these qualifications using a delivery and assessment method that meets the needs of our Learners. We ensure that the chosen mode of delivery does not unlawfully or unfairly discriminate, whether direct or indirect, and that equality of opportunity is promoted. Where it is reasonable and practical to do so, we will take steps to address identified inequalities or barriers that may arise. Assessment plans and Personal Development Plans provide individual support for Learners. Assessment will be relevant to the unit content. Clear instructions given. Some tasks will cover two learning objectives.
