Level 2 Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services – NCFE (Full-Time)
Course Overview
The NCFE Level 2 Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services is for students that have a personal drive and motivation to join the United Kingdom’s public services such as Police, Fire, Ambulance, Prison Service, Border Force and the Armed Forces (Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines). This course will prepare students for work or an apprenticeship by giving them the opportunity to develop sector-specific knowledge and practical kills, and to apply these skills in work-related environments. This qualification will also enable progression to Level 3 Level qualifications such as NCFE Level 3 Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services. Students will also develop highly transferable workplace skills, such as good communication and the ability to work in a team.
The objectives of this qualification are to provide learners with:
An understanding of the uniformed public services sector
The opportunity to investigate career opportunities in the uniformed services
The opportunity to investigate volunteering roles and the transferable workplace skills volunteering can provide
The ability to prepare for a recruitment interview
An understanding of the personal commitment and fitness requirements needed to be employed in a uniformed service role
An understanding of the importance of health and hygiene for those in uniformed service roles
The opportunity to understand and develop the skills and qualities needed to work in a range of uniformed services, e.g. team work, communication, problem solving, navigation and drill.
2 GCSE or equivalent at grades C or above
This qualification will support students to continue their Further Education in Public Services by progressing to Level 3 Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services or students would be able to pursue a career in Public Services, leadership roles, or sports-related areas; for example, the Police Force, Ambulance, Fire Service, Royal Navy, Army, Marines, Royal Air Force, Prison Service, Transport Police or Probation Service.
The course is 1-year long. Modules include:
Map-reading
Undertaking adventurous activities
Investigate employment in the uniformed services
Physical fitness for the uniformed services
Develop team working and problem solving skills
Health and safety in the uniformed services
Follow uniformed service routine
Explore volunteering and volunteering opportunities
The course runs over 4 days, starting at 0915 and the classes are a mixture of lessons, activities, sports, and outdoor skill activities such as hiking, climbing and biking.
All units are assessed through internal assessment (No Exams). Internal assessment allows students to apply technical knowledge and demonstrate mastery of practical and technical skills through realistic tasks and activities. This style of assessment promotes deep learning through ensuring the connection between knowledge and practice by having the students complete workbooks, papers, presentations, or taking part in activities.
Costs can include outdoor kit (Hiking trousers, wet weather gear, cold weather gear, and hiking footwear), participation fees for outdoor skill activities, overnight trips in support of learning of skills taught in the classroom environment and multi-night trip to further enhance student learning of classroom skills.Average costs is £200 per student, exceptions and student support may be available.
