Level 2 Foundation in Painting/Decorating & Wall/Floor tiling (Full Time)
Course Overview
The level 2 foundation in painting/decorating & wall/floor tiling is a full-time two trades course designed for students who are interested in working in the construction industry as a painter & decorator or as a tiler.
A painter/tiler works on diverse projects from new buildings/homes, historical buildings to working on large commercial projects. As a painter/tiler you will learn and develop skills such as attention to detail, accurate measuring and calculating dimensions, volumes, areas, gain knowledge on materials and learn specific techniques for both trades. These two trades specialise in producing high quality finishing which will produce a sense of accomplishment in your work.
Students will need to have achieved or be working towards their Level 2 Essential Skills English and Maths (or equivalent). GCSE Grade D or above in Maths and English. The qualification is suitable for learners aged 16+ currently working in or intending to work in the construction and built environment sector. This is also suitable for site operatives who want to widen their knowledge, understanding and skills in the sector more generally.
The level 2 painting/decorating & tiling foundation qualification provides sufficient knowledge for learners to progress onto the painting & decorating progression qualification or an apprenticeship within the sector either as a painter & decorator or as a specialist wall & floor tiler.
All learners will complete six mandatory ‘core’ units which holistically cover:
• an introduction to the construction and built environment sectors,
• employment and employability skills; and
• health and safety.
In addition to these ‘core’ units, learners will cover two trade units; painting/decorating & wall/floor tiling to spend additional time learning practical & academical skills, which will include planning, performing and evaluating common tasks. The qualification equips learners with a broad, cross-cutting understanding of the sector, enabling them to make informed decisions about their own development.
To achieve this qualification, learners must complete:
• one externally set, externally marked on-screen multiple-choice test
• one externally set, internally marked practical project covering two trade areas; painting/decorating and wall/floor tiling.
• one externally set, internally marked guided discussion.
You will require a range of Personal Protective Equipment and stationery prior to starting on the course including: Safety Boots, Safety Glasses, Face Mask, Calculator, Scale rule, pens, pencils and paper, A4 lever arch file.
