Professional Certificate in Education (PCE) PCET (Part-Time)
Course Overview
The Professional Certificate in Education (PCE PCET) is for students with a specific subject qualification interested in teaching, how to become a teacher and the importance to teach someone else. If you are looking to gain a nationally recognised teaching qualification to work in further education and the broader post-compulsory sector.
On the course, you will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of successful practice in Postcompulsory Education and your confidence as a professional practitioner.
This is located in the Sixth Form Academy (SFA) department.
This course is run in partnership with the University of South Wales.
A Level 3 qualification relevant to the subject specialism and GCSEs at Grade C or above including English and Maths. Students will need to undertake teaching practice of a minimum of 70 hours each year and must have this arranged before enrolling on the course.
This programme requires an enhanced DBS check, charged at an additional cost to the student.
Students who complete the course have employment prospects in further and adult education, for example: teacher, lecturer, post-16 teaching assistant or study coach.
The programme will include lectures, seminars, tutorial and practical workshops. You are required to have a substantial teaching practice placement in both years of study.
You will have to complete written assignments, practical assessments, reflective journals and a poster presentation as you progress through the programme. Your teaching will be observed during both academic years.
Modules include: Preparing to Teach, Learning and Applying Pedagogy, Professional Practice, The Role of ICT in Further Education, Blended Learning Applications, Enhancing Learning, Teaching and Assessment.
You will have to complete written assignments, practical assessments, reflective journals and a poster presentation as you progress through the programme. Your teaching will be observed during both academic years.
