Painting & Decorating that’s out of this world

Neath College’s painting and decorating department will wow its visitors with an out of this world wall mural.

Once-plain beige walls and ugly electrical boxes have been transformed into an eye-catching centrepiece that greets visitors. The work of art was created by Level 1 painting and decorating students to showcase skills taught as individual disciplines, including sponging, angular textures and signwriting, and how they can be combined to create work that rivals the sets from film studios.

The initial idea for the wall was inspired by a range of paint called ‘Out Of This World’ made by the paint manufacturer Valspar and utilises a number of the colours available from the range.

Emily Evans, NPTC Group of Colleges painting and decorating instructor, was delighted with the result and said: “The students have had a great time working on the project and are very proud of the finished result, and this is just the beginning. There are more areas of our department we are working on improving and the work will go towards the students’ broken colour techniques and paint effect modules of their course.’’
