NPTC Group of Colleges is the only Further Education provider in Wales to be rated Silver in the UK government’s new Teaching Excellence Framework.
The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) is a new scheme for recognising excellent teaching, in addition to existing national quality requirements for universities, colleges and other higher education providers. It provides information to help prospective students choose where to study.
The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) evaluates Higher Education Providers on criteria including teaching quality, learning environment and student outcomes, taking into account factors such as student satisfaction, retention rates and progress to employment or higher study.
The College has been awarded TEF Silver for delivering high-quality teaching, learning and outcomes for its students. One of only three regulated FE Colleges to offer higher education, it consistently exceeds rigorous national quality requirements for UK higher education. The silver rating means that the teaching of Higher Education courses at NPTC Group of Colleges is at the same high-quality standard as the nation’s top Universities including some belonging to the Russell Group.
The TEF Panel judged that the College had high levels of student satisfaction, academic support, assessment and feedback.
In particular, the panel highlighted evidence of:
- High-quality personalised provision to enable students, especially those from non-traditional backgrounds, to achieve their academic and professional goals and which secures high levels of engagement and commitment to learning and study from students
- An institutional approach to developing physical and digital resources, which are used frequently by students to aid and enhance learning and develop study and research skills
- High levels of student satisfaction with teaching, assessment and feedback.

The TEF Silver award is valid for three years and will put clear information into the hands of students so they know where to find high-quality learning and teaching.
