Newtown College Performing Arts Students Rock the Stage with Rock of Ages

Rock of Ages cast on stage at The Hafren theatre.

Rock of Ages, a high-energy musical celebrating classic 1980s rock anthems, was performed at The Hafren by Performing Arts students at Newtown College, both past and present. Students, complete with big hair, bold costumes, and an infectious sense of fun, each brought their own spark to the performance. The leads delivered confident, character-driven portrayals, balancing humour with heartfelt moments, while the ensemble kept the stage alive with dynamic movement and harmonies. The choreography was executed with enthusiasm and precision, creating a sense of unity and momentum throughout the show.

What truly shone through was the cast’s commitment. Every performer, from the smallest cameo to the central roles, radiated passion and joy, making it clear that this was more than just a college musical — it was a shared creative triumph. The audience left buzzing, not just from the music, but from witnessing the confidence, teamwork, and artistry these students brought to the stage.

Ruth Calvert, Performing Arts Lecturer, said:

“I am incredibly proud of our students for the energy, commitment and professionalism they brought to Rock of Ages. They delivered a fantastic series of performances and truly captured the spirit of the show. I would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Hafren Theatre staff, our directors and choreographers, and everyone involved behind the scenes whose hard work made this production possible. We are especially grateful to our audiences for their support, and to every student who took part both on and off stage to make the show such a success.”
