Students Showcase Creative Talent in Game Design Final Projects

Newtown College students during a Game Design session

Students studying Level 2 and Level 3 Game Design across Brecon and Newtown Colleges are celebrating an exciting milestone after completing their final major projects—designing and developing their own original video games.

A group of 15 students demonstrated their creativity, technical skill, and imagination by producing a diverse range of games, each reflecting unique themes, concepts, and individual styles. The projects highlighted the breadth of talent across both course levels, with students applying the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout the academic year.

Level 2 students were tasked with creating 2D games, focusing on core gameplay mechanics and visual design, while Level 3 students advanced their skills further by developing immersive 3D experiences. Across both levels, students embraced a variety of approaches, with many choosing to design engaging games featuring scoring systems, obstacle challenges, and multi-level progression.

The final projects showcased impressive attention to detail, with all games incorporating environments such as buildings, landscapes, and interactive objects. Some students brought their creations to life by designing characters capable of using tools or weapons and encountering enemies, while others focused on storytelling, enhancing their games with sound effects, music, and visually appealing graphics.
