The AS Level / A Level Geography is a new course with a strong emphasis on investigative skills and the understanding of physical and human processes and landscapes. This is located in the Sixth Form Academy (SFA).
We study a range of social and environmental issues at a local, national and global scale.

The world we live in is constantly changing. The study of Geography is an integral part in understanding and reacting to this. The Geography course is designed for students to explore and discover the complexity of our changing world.
Students will have the opportunity to investigate a range of themes including glaciation, tectonics, ocean management and world development. Furthermore, geography is a subject which utilises and enhances a range of skills, from map-work to critical thinking and using statistical data.
6 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Maths. A grade B in English Language is desirable.
Geography is a modern and topical subject which draws together many of the skills that employers demand.
Geographers enter a wide range of university courses and careers including Geology, Conservation and Environmental work, Resource Management, Town Planning, and Teaching.

Unit 1: Changing Landscapes – glaciated Landscapes; tectonic hazards.
Unit 2: Changing Places – relationships and connections; meaning and representation; economic change; deindustrialisation and social inequalities; the tertiary and quaternary economies; rebranding and challenges of continuity and change in rural and urban places.
A2
Unit 3: Global Systems and Global Governance – the water and carbon cycles; global migration; global governance of the Earth’s oceans; 21st Century challenges.
Unit 4: Contemporary Themes in Geography – tectonic hazards; two themes chosen from: Ecosystems; Economic Growth and Challenge; Energy Challenges; Weather and Climate.
Unit 5: Independent Investigation – 3,000-4,000 word investigation of a chosen topic.
Part Time study incurs a fee of £150 per subject, payable at enrolment. There may be additional course-related costs, for example for field visits.
