The Level 1 Introduction to Hair and Beauty Services is a Full-time Further Education course designed for students who are interested in becoming a hairdresser or beauty therapist within the hairdressing and applied therapies industry.
This is located in the Hairdressing and Applied Therapies (HAT) department.
Interview prior to enrolment. Learners must have achieved 2 GCSEs at grades D/E (or equivalent). Interview prior to enrolment.
Students must be aged 16 and have achieved at least two GCSEs at Grades D or above; one must be English.
The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in both hair and beauty and will provide you with the foundation for further learning. It will also enable you to perform your own services and to assist others in the salon.
This qualification will allow students to continue their studies to Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy and/or advanced skills courses.
This programme covers styling, setting and blow-drying skills, colouring, shampooing and conditioning hair, basic salon health and safety, retail, reception skills and customer care.
The beauty units are basic manicure/pedicure/nail art/themed face painting and basic make-up techniques.
Assessment methods include observation of practical work, written assignments, oral questioning and written end of unit tests. Learners will be required to bring clients to commercial classes for assessments.
Additionally, they will have homework to complete which includes compiling a portfolio of evidence, completing workbooks and practising skills.
Learners will be required to purchase a kit and uniform.
