Process 18 – Art & Design Awards

Over the course of the last few weeks, Art and Design students across NPTC Group of Colleges have been exhibiting their work in an exhibition entitled ‘Process 18’.

Head of School for Creative, Visual and Performing Arts Vicky Burroughs explained the idea behind the exhibition; “we have a lot of talented students enrolled across our Art & Design courses across Afan, Neath and Newtown Colleges. The Process 18 exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and showcase the hard work and dedication of both our students and staff, displaying the students work in a professional context and wishing our second year students all the best for the next stage in their careers.

This year, in recognition of our students’ achievements, Swansea College of Art (UWTSD) have presented awards to those students studying across our Level 2, 3 and A level courses, highlighting how much HE establishments value the talents and skills of our students”.

At Afan College, we were joined by guest speaker, Welsh artist Peter Finnemore. Peter has worked with our Level 2 & 3 students this year on an environmental art project in Margam Park and is a well-known photographic and performance artist.

Peter selected Aimee Williams – Level 2 Art and Jay Dowding – Level 3 Art as award winners.

Donna Williams – Course Director of BA Honours Graphic Design at Swansea College of Art selected Hannah Thomas as the winner for the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design.

At Neath College, we were joined by our partners from Swansea College of Art: well-known Welsh artist Professor Sue Williams – Senior lecturer on the BA Honours Degree in Fine Art, Anna Lewis – Lecturer on the BA Honours Degree in Surface Pattern and Paul Duerinckx – Senior Lecturer on the BA Honours Degree in Photo Journalism.

The prize for Graphic Design this year was presented by former students Ling Dong, Callum Lewis and Ashleigh Chivers, who are currently studying on the BA Honours in Graphic Design at Swansea College of Art. Each of these former students are doing exceptionally well on their degree courses and their Course Director Donna Williams has told us that the skills they were taught on the Art & Design courses at NPTC Group of Colleges has given them a strong grounding to succeed in Higher Education. All three of the students will be exhibiting next year at the New Designers Exhibition in London.
