Heather Phillips at The Young Traders Market

Heather Phillips, a Level 2 Art and Design student at Newtown College, has been awarded Highly Commended at the Young Traders Market in Oswestry for her unique needle felted characters. Heather’s success has earned her a place in the next round of the competition, which will be held in Mold.

The Young Traders Market is an award-winning initiative that provides a platform for young entrepreneurs to explore market trading. These markets are an excellent opportunity to test, develop, and grow new business ideas, nurturing the market traders of the future.

Oswestry markets are a thriving hub for young entrepreneurs, offering a supportive community, a wide range of local goods, produce, and services, as well as activities and entertainment. This environment is ideal for young businesses to flourish.

Arren Roberts, Oswestry Town Council Clerk, commented: “Our markets are a brilliant platform to test business ideas, get feedback from customers, and build confidence. We’re excited to be offering this opportunity and keen to see lots of aspiring traders take part.”

The winning traders, chosen by the Mayor of Oswestry, have the chance to compete in the regional final in Mold on 29 June. Successful traders will then progress to the national final later in the year.
